Moving Adventures & Pics of the New House!

So we've now had a few weeks in the new house. We've registered kids at new schools, commuted a bunch of times, populated the coop, and decided the dog needs a kennel.

Moving itself was an adventure! Final move day dawned cloudy and raining. Winter arrived that day and rained/snowed on our parade. Jason stuffed all our boxes and bags in black garbage bags to keep our stuff dry and we fought through the weather, but by the time the trailer was loaded it was five in the afternoon and I still had a whole house to deep clean. Jason took the kids and with some help from new neighbors unloaded the trailer, and then got the kids settled in for the night before coming back in to Pocatello to help me finish up the scrubbing. One AM and we were still going, but not effectively. We gave up, set plans to go finish in the morning, and went home. Opening the front door of my new house on the first night I was going to sleep there I was met by a sea of black garbage bags, precariously piled. I ignored them, put together the bed, and we crashed. The problem came the next morning when I couldn't find clothes to wear to the office. I ended up going to work in camouflage pants and a Depeche Mode t-shirt. Luckily, I have very understanding co-workers! And Jason and the kids gave me a present by finishing up the cleaning while I was at work, so it's been all unpacking and putting together since then.

A conversation with a neighbor turned into an offer of a few chickens for Duval - an offer quickly accepted by farmer-in-training! (A little off subject, Duval would like to know what a farmer-in-training is called? Jedi-in-training get a cool name - padawan. He wants one for farmer-in-training.) Duval is now super excited about his little flock, though how soon we will actually see eggs I don't know, since they get more attention from Duval than a chicken really needs.

Jason has spent many, many hours making our shed stand upright so he can fill it with his stuff (Jason: 'It's equipment!'). Okay, fine. Equipment. Lots of equipment so we can hike, camp, ski, hunt, scuba, plus all the man-crafty things. I do like the results of having all the equipment, but wow - is it a lot!

We (Jason) discovered a need for more tv than our giant antenna was giving us (all of three channels, one in Spanish), so we have rediscovered the joys of paying for extra tv and watching Mythbusters. Duval can't wait for shark week. Not that he knows what that is, but if he knew...

The kids find school great fun, but while Duval's elementary school is similar in size to his old one, Ambri has gone from a large quasi-urban middle school to a quite small rural one. She finds this to have good aspects and less exciting ones, but overall is having a great time.

And the commute is, well, a commute. Actually, it's quite pretty almost every morning. Unfortunately our radio stations are very limited. NPR is good for a ways, but gets rather heavy very fast. I don't really need an in-depth on Afganistan/Darfur/IRA/Swine Flu every single day. Country? Um...lots of choices but...no. Hip-pop is out. That leaves the classic and current rock stations, which are ok. I need some mp3/podcast entertainment! I'll need to figure this one out.

Pictures? Did you want pictures? Ok - here you go. Enjoy!
