A fledgling hunter-gatherer

Some households have a breadwinner and a homemaker and the two rolls are separate and clearly delineated. That is not my house! I work outside the home doing some breadwinning, and Jason contributes to the homemaking by being the house chef extraordinaire and also manages the shopping to support his culinary magic-working. But my breadwinning has not been complete because we don't only do it financially in this house--it seems we are hunter-gatherers as well and I have not been contributing! This is the year I attempt to change that. Jason kindly put me in for an anterless moose hunt and--hooray--I am one of the lucky winners of the draw! I will hunt a moose. Yay?

Yesterday was step one on this adventure. Practice. How many times have I handled a gun? Dozen times or so when I took hunter safety (1997), one attempt at deer hunting (also 1997), one pheasant hunt (2006 - successful! Three birds!)), couple times when Ambri went through hunter safety (2007). Yep, practice would be good. Out to the shooting range we go. And it wasn't so bad! All my shots were on the target, in fact my pattern of 10 shots wasn't more than a foot or so wide. I'm swapping out my one-legged shooting stick for a two-legger and we'll see if I can improve that some.

It's soon time to contribute to the freezer.
